This time, Pawar’s strategy includes baby pickup

March 22nd, 2017

Gubernatorial candidate Ameya Pawar knocked on every door of the 47th Ward before he was elected to the Northwest Side community back in 2011.

He wants to mirror that effort as he runs for statewide office. This time, though, he says he has 1,000-plus volunteers across 62 counties to help him do that.

“We’re going to go to every county and talk to people,” he says. There are 102 counties in Illinois.

It’s not just the vastness of running for statewide office that’s changed. Pawar is in a different place, too.

He’s now married with a 1-year-old.

That means his days start early so he can cover lots of ground traveling downstate before returning in the evenings–often in time to pick up his daughter from daycare.

Read more about what drives Pawar to run for office in my Taking Names column in the Chicago Sun-Times.
