Juan Rangel heads a policy group to get Mexican Americans in office. 0

The return of Juan Rangel

May 25th, 2017

After three-plus years off the political grid, Juan Rangel is back.

The former CEO of the United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) is working to launch Mexican Americans into civic leadership roles–including public office.

The Mexican American Leadership, Policy and Action Committee (Malpac) isn’t focused on politics, he says. Just policy.

As founder, Rangel modeled the nonprofit after a program started at UNO, which he also founded and which runs charter schools around the city. “The impetus was last year’s election of (Donald) Trump,” Rangel says of Malpac. “And not just the election but the reaction.”

Find out what else Rangle has been up to in my Taking Names column in the Chicago Sun-Times.
