Soft soap about Deb Kraemer on WTTW show
January 7th, 2017
Deb Kraemer got a kick out of showing off her soap-making shop to Eric Gorges, host of “A Craftsman’s Legacy.”
“Women are usually more interested in this than men, so it was nice to have him show genuine interest,” Kraemer says of Gorgos–a manly man who builds motorcycles when he’s not showcasing American artisans and their techniques.
Kraemer, owner of Abbey Brown Soap Artisan, will be featured in “A Craftsman’s Legacy” on Jan. 10 on WTTW.
Her West Loop business is 16 years in the making–first in farmers markets and then in her own retail store. The kitchen, where she concocts edible ingredients into soap, is in the back.
In the show, Kraemer explains the science of soap-making, scents and all, and she teaches Gorges how to make his own shaving soap. He uses cedar wood, fir and pine. Nothing girly about that.
“A Craftsman’s Legacy” has also featured a ventriloquist puppet maker, alpaca farmer, yarn spinner and a duck decoy master carver.
