Fighting Blindness is personal for Richard Price
October 18th, 2016
Richard Price will be honored Oct. 22 by the Foundation Fighting Blindness. The organization’s work is personal for the Mesirow Financial CEO. His nephew suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disease that causes gradual decline in eyesight.
Price’s nephew, Atlanta wealth adviser David Price, was 29 when he learned he had the disease. Now 16 years later, he’s lost all but about 15 percent of his sight.
“The foundation connected David to a doctor in Philadelphia and I’ve been following their work ever since,” says Richard Price.
The Maryland nonprofit has an active Chicago office. David Brint, co-founder of Brinshore Development in Northbrook, is board chairman. And Ira Schulman, a Walton Street Capital real-estate executive in Chicago, is a trustee.
Price says he accepted Brint’s call to be honored but “It’s really about creating more awareness about eyesight issues and the research the foundation does.”
