Chicago banker reflects on crime in Chicago and solutions

Chicago banker Eric Smith, market president for Fifth Third bank in Chicago, answered my questions about being a businessman in Chicago during these interesting political times.
He was gracious and thoughtful. I know he’d have preferred to talk more about the bank but he offered this bit of wisdom in the discussion.
“I applaud President (Donald) Trump for his focus on Chicago violence and agree that significant changes are required, but it’s important to avoid knee-jerk reactions,” says Smith. “You have to understand the history of what got us to this point before you can fix something.”
