The buzzword in Woodlawn: ‘Obamalibrary’
June 1st, 2017
When you stand just right in the 12th floor apartment at Jackson Towers in Woodlawn, “You’ll be able to see the library,” says Baird & Warner broker Diane Freeman, who’s showing the condo to prospective buyers.
She’s referring, of course, to the Obama Presidential Center that will be built in nearby Jackson Park. The condo’s owner, Saskia Sassen, is a former University of Chicago professor now teaching in New York.
To hear Freeman, the area is ripe for a real-estate boom since former President Barack Obama selected Jackson Park as the home to his presidential library.
Sales numbers show a slight increase, from $226,000 average sales prices in July last year to $255,000 in May this year. Real-estate brokers say it’s the buzz that’s seen an exponential increase.
