Malia Obama’s birthday takes media by storm
July 6th, 2017
Malia Obama, the oldest daughter of former President Barack Obama, turned 19 on July 4, and the Twitter-verse celebrated.
“Happy Malia Obama Day,” tweeted Chance the Rapper. He was among the many who chose to protest current political events and inequalities that still exist in America by celebrating Malia Obama’s birthday on Independence Day. InStyle has a story.
No word on how the former first daughter actually celebrated her birthday. But that didn’t stop the media from paying tribute.
Newsweek pulled together a list of the former first daughter’s year as an adult.
After delaying college a year, she’s now set to start at Harvard University in Massachusetts this fall.
Politico offered a year in photos.
And E-New showed a glimpse of how Malia has grown since her father took office nearly nine years ago.
During the past year, Malia attended the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, took part in a protest against the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline and interned with movie producer Harvey Weinstein in New York City. And she recently was photographed on a rafting on a family vacation in Bali.
Most impressive—the young Obama was able to take a trip to South America without the paparazzi knowing. She’ll have a harder time skirting cameras should she attend this year’s Lollapalooza in Chicago.
