J.B. Pritzker joins board of trustees of his alma mater: Duke
July 20th, 2017
On any given day, J.B. Pritzker crisscrosses the state campaigning for governor, oversees his businesses or spends time with family. He’s busy.
But maybe not busy enough. He’s just accepted a new role to serve on the board of Duke University, his alma mater.
Pritzker is among three new trustees named to the voluntary board.
He will be among 37 trustees responsible for the school’s educational mission and fiscal policies.
Pritzker, who earned his undergrad degree from Duke and has a $3.4 billion net worth, is a big get for the school.
Consider what Pritzker did for Northwestern University, where he earned a law degree. Two years ago, Pritzker and his wife, M.K., made an unprecedented $100 million donation to the law school.
In a release that announced his and five other appointments, Duke praised Pritzker for his “extensive philanthropy.” That includes “expanding high-quality early learning for disadvantaged children,” according to the release.
