Equality Illinois, Planned Parenthood get a boost
February 6th, 2017
Call it the Trump effect. Equality Illinois and Planned Parenthood in Illinois say changes in the political climate in Washington, D.C., have given their organizations a boost.
“(It’s) put our community on notice that we have to remain vigilant and protect our rights,” says Brian Johnson, CEO of Equality Illinois. “We saw that at the gala this weekend.”
More than 1,200 attended, including U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who drew cheers after speaking to the crowd about Chicago being a city of inclusion. Johnson Publishing CEO Desiree Rogers also joined the party. She sat at a table with Bernard Cherkasov, the executive director of Cradles to Crayons–Chicago nonprofit and former CEO of Equality Illinois. Rogers was recently named to the Cradles board.
